Last summer chinese scammers attempted to deceive me into registering CN domains (.cn/.com.cn/.net.cn/.org.cn) and internet keyword.
I got next email from firstname.lastname@example.org :
We are a Network Service Company which is the domain name registration center in Shanghai, China. On July 4, 2014, we received an application from Huafi Holdings Ltd requested “rubyway” as their internet keyword and China (CN) domain names. But after checking it, we find this name conflict with your company name or trademark. In order to deal with this matter better, it’s necessary to send email to you and confirm whether this company is your distributor or business partner in China?

Few days later I got a next email from email@example.com:
To whom it concerns,
We will register the “rubyway” as internet keyword and China domain names .cn, .com.cn, .net.cn, .org.cn. We have submitted our application and are waiting for Mr. Henry Liu’s approval. We think these CN domains and internet keyword are very important for our business. Even though Mr. Henry Liu advises us to change another name, we will persist in this name.
And once more email from “Henry Liu”:
The dispute period will be over soon but we have not heard from you since our last comunication. Anyone can obtain CN domains (.cn/.com.cn/.net.cn/.org.cn) and internet keyword by registration because your company haven’t registered this name as CN domains and internet keyword on the internet. You must know the domain names and internet keyword which applied based on the international principle are opened to companies as well as individuals. Also, we have suggested they should choose another name but they are persistent in this name. As a domain name registrar, we have no rights to refuse their application if they insist. In this situation, we have told you your company have the priorty to register CN domains and internet keyword in our dispute period. Could you tell us whether or not your company want to register these CN domain names and internet keyword to prevent anyone from using them?
Obvious, it’s a SCAM, but I continued to represent the interest of domain registration 🙂
Hello Henry! Thanks for the proposition.I want to register ‘rubyway’ domain and keyword. What conditions of registration?
After that, I said ‘goodbye scammers’ 🙂
If you get an likely emails warning you that someone is trying to take in on your business’s name, be sure, IT’S A SCAM.
No need to register these domain names through your registrar (I did it for another reason), just ignore emails and mark as spam.
